Tate Liverpool

Housed in a converted warehouse at Albert Dock, Tate Liverpool is one of the largest galleries of modern art outside London. The gallery is one of four nationwide that displays selections from the Tate Collection. The displays are themed and change regularly.

Gustav Klimt: Painting, Design and Modern Life in Vienna 1900 opens May 30 and runs until August 31 2008. It will be the first comprehensive exhibition of the Austrian artist’s work in the UK. More than 16,000 tickets have already been sold.

American actor and film-maker Dennis Hopper will present the 2007 Turner Prize at Tate Liverpool on December 3. It is the first time the prestigious award ceremony and exhibition has been held outside London. The short-listed artists are Zarina Bhimji, Nathan Coley, Mike Nelson and Mark Wallinger. The ceremony will be broadcast live on Channel 4 News.

Masterpieces from the Tate Collection will be come to Liverpool for the first time to help celebrate the city’s status as European Capital of Culture 2008. The new displays will open at the Tate Liverpool on September 29 and will include Rodin’s The Kiss, Degas’ Little Dancer Aged Fourteen, Picasso’s Weeping Woman and Andy Warhol’s Marilyn Diptych.

Tate Liverpool are hosting the Turner Prize 2007, the first time the event has been held outside London. An exhibition of the work of the shortlisted artists opens on October 19.
